Dr. Thomas Hüwener
Dr. Thomas Hüwener is Chairman of the Management Board at Open Grid Europe (OGE), one of Europe’s leading transmission system operators. He has held various leadership positions within OGE and its predecessor companies since 2001 and has been a member of the Management Board since 2013. In July 2024, he became CEO of OGE, with responsibilities including corporate development, network planning and customer solutions.
Dr. Hüwener studied Mechanical Engineering with a focus on energy, process and environmental engineering at Ruhr University Bochum and Texas A&M University. Throughout his career, he has been closely involved in the development of energy infrastructure in Germany.
A key focus of his work is the transformation of gas infrastructure towards a climate-neutral energy system. He is actively committed to the development of Germany’s hydrogen core grid and the scaling of a competitive hydrogen market. As CEO of OGE, he is shaping the hydrogen economy and the broader energy transition in Germany and Europe.
