Verena Graichen

Verena Graichen has been the Federal Executive Director for Policy at the German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND) since February 15, 2025, and served as BUND's Vice Chair from 2019 to 2025. She also chaired the Berlin branch of BUND and was spokesperson for the International Environmental Protection Working Group.
She is committed to consistent climate protection and sees green hydrogen as an important building block on the path to climate neutrality. Verena Graichen is an expert in energy and climate policy and worked as a researcher at the Öko-Institut (Institute for Applied Ecology). Through the McCloy Fellowship and projects for the European Commission, she undertook study trips to the USA and China on the topic of emissions trading.
She holds a degree in Administrative Sciences from the University of Potsdam and, during her studies, worked with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GIZ) in Ecuador on the Decentralization, Modernization, and Urban Development program.
